Prior to 1868, Tokyo was known as Edo. A small castle town in the 16th century, Edo became Japan's political center in 1603 when Tokugawa Ieyasu established his feudal government there. A few decades later, Edo had grown into one of the world's most populous cities. Japan offers a very wide range of attractions, from historical and cultural treasures to modern and futuristic sights and beautiful forests, mountains and sea coasts. You will never be bored during your trip to Tokyo. The world's most densely populated city features everything from brightly-lit entertainment districts to quiet gardens. Though the city has excellent public transportation systems, we suggest you bring comfortable shoes and hit the streets. It's the best way to discover small temples tucked between modern office buildings, interesting shops, and sumos riding bicycles through their village. There are plenty of attractions to explore while visiting Tokyo. Try to take time learning some of the beautiful cultures associated with this great city. You may want to learn about Ikebana, Japanese flower arranging. The museums in Tokyo will fulfill your cultural appetite and you will learn so much from spending some time looking at all the wonderful exhibits and pieces that are housed in them. Don't forget to make a special trip to see The Tokyo Tower as soon as you arrive in the city. It is taller than the Eiffel Tower and provides you with beautiful views of the city. Tokyo Disneyland is a complete Adventure land, Fantasyland and Tomorrow land. There is so much to do and see such as parades, shows and firework displays. Finding food in Tokyo is absolutely no problem. The city is teeming with restaurants catering to just about every mood and craving. Many Japanese restaurants cater to a particular taste like udon, sushi, yakitori, or whatever the house specialty might be, however, it's not difficult to find establishments that serve enough of a variety to please the choosiest eater. In addition to hotels for all pockets Tokyo also has a cheap accommodation system in hostels. The hostels and bed and breakfasts in the area can be a lot less than the hotel prices for rooms. They offer clean and hospitable stays in the area, but some have dormitory style arrangements where you may be expected to share facilities. Keep that in mind if you are thinking about staying at one of them. |
