Prague, the capital city of the relatively small Czech Republic is popularly known as the "Jewel in the Crown" of Central Europe and tourism is a major force. Since the Middle Ages, Prague has played a pivotal role in the development of Central Europe. Prague is widely recognized, as one of the most beautiful cities in the world and tourism is today a major force in the city. Tourism has not overrun Prague, but it is extremely important. No other European capital contains six hundred years of architecture so completely untouched by natural disaster or war. Much of the reconstruction and development of the city has been funded by tourism. Prague is an ideal tourist destination. Sightseeing is superb, food & drink is relatively cheap and of good quality, plus Prague's compact city centre makes walking between tourist attractions easy. Prague's public transport network is well integrated, cheap and efficient. Public transport operates frequently and one single ticket permits travel on all metros, trams & buses. Tickets for travel on the metro, buses & trams are sold at ticket offices & ticket machines in metro stations. Tickets can also be purchased at newsagents, some hotels and information centers. One tickets permits travel on all metros, trams & buses, and include transfers between modes of transport (except the single non-transfer ticket). The funicular railway runs up the Petrin hillside. Take it to enjoy wonderful views over the whole of Prague. |
