"A POPULAR DESTINATION"

Lisbon (LIS)
The City on seven hills

Lisbon, the most visited city in Portugal, has enough sights and facilities in and around the capital to make it your favorite tourist destination. Boasting springtime temperatures during the winter and cool summers freshened by a breeze blowing in from the Atlantic, Costa de Lisboa, on the southwestern coast, offers a rich and impressively integrated diversity. The capital of Portugal since its conquest from the Moors in 1147, Lisbon is a legendary city with a historical background of more than 20 centuries.

Within a short drive, you can find sandy beaches and fishing villages, like Sesimbra, the dense vegetation of Sintra, with its royal palaces and breathtaking views over the ocean and hills, or enjoy sailing along the Tagus and Sado river estuaries. Hotels, modern shopping centers, cultural activities and a whole lot more make this one of the best year-round destinations in Europe. Throughout the city you will find museums, gardens, monuments and an assortment of events where local and historical culture comes to life. Euro is the currency used in Lisbon.

Lisbon is very easy to get to. It's just a short flight away from most European locations and also easily accessed by road, sea and rail. The airport has daily flights to and from the major cities in the world and the national airlines are TAP - Tap Air Portugal, PGA - Portugal Airlines and Air Luxor. The airport is located seven kilometers north of the city.

If you're driving to Lisbon, enjoy the countryside along the way. The A1 Auto-Estrada do Norte extends from Porto to Lisbon and the A8 arrives from destinations to the north and west of the city.

International trains arrive in Lisbon every day, mainly to Santa Apolonia Station and more recently to the Gare do Oriente, the newest railway station located in the former Expo Park, today known as Nations Park. Intercity trains connect all of Portugal's major cities to either Lisbon or Porto. International cruise ships stop at Alcantara, Rocha do Conde de Obidos and Santa Apolonia. There are five marinas that receive private boats and provide mooring.
