Beijing is the capital of the People's Republic of China and is the nation's center of government, economy, culture, and international activities. Beijing meaning Northern Capital is a place of both ancient history and dazzling modernity. The city itself is traversed by freeways and hundreds of flyovers. High-rises adorn the lengths of this city making it a vivid metropolis within China. Situated at 39°56'N and 116°20'E. it neighbors the Tianjin Municipality in the east, and borders Hebei Province on three sides-the north, west and south, Beijing is a very picturesque city with mountains that snake round the city's north, west and northeast, while the southeast part of the city is a plain that slopes gently toward the coast of the Bohai Sea. Beijing has direct air connections to/from major cities in the world and many travelers make use of the direct Beijing-Hong Kong flights. Guangzhou and Shenzhen are both near Hong Kong and have direct domestic flights to Beijing where as Hong Kong is treated as an international flight. |
